Kutala, after 1,000 years

What is Okko The Exiled?

Okko The Exiled is a hand-drawn 2D action platformer by Frozen Flame Interactive, released on September 30, 2026 for PC and Mac at $14.99. You play Okko, a small oni waking after 1,000 years, swinging the club Mighty Fang through the demon land of Kutala to bring down Demon Lord Yalda. It is stage-based, not a metroidvania: 12 core levels, 9 boss fights and 20 Underground challenge levels unlocked with hidden Deevols, all connected by the hub, The Old Throne. Start with the beginner tips, follow the walkthrough route, or jump to the boss list and achievements.

The one mechanic the tutorial undersells

Hit on the heartbeat

Okko's heart beats whenever the HUD timer passes 12 o'clock. Attack on that beat and the hit is a critical, and it refills Heart Energy.

Quick questions

How long is Okko The Exiled?

About 10 hours for the story on a first playthrough and 12 to 15 with the optional content, the developer said on the launch-eve stream (elsewhere he put a first run at up to 12 hours). There are six zones with 12 core levels of 20 to 60 minutes each, plus 20 short Underground challenge levels. A no-commentary full run on YouTube reaches the credits in about 4 hours.

Do you lose money when you die in Okko The Exiled?

Yes, a small percentage of the gems you carry, not all of them, and you cannot go back to pick them up. The developer lowered the penalty for the full release, some Pacts reduce it further, and you can replay levels to earn gems back.

Is Okko The Exiled free?

No. It costs $14.99 (€14.99) on Steam and GOG. There was a free demo in 2025, but it is no longer listed on Steam.
